Representation of femme/feminine expression is something that is deeply important to me, even more so in the LGBTQIA+ community. I have chosen to focus on female and femme stories, to illustrate femininity as a characteristic of strength. Too often people assume femininity insinuates softness, or weakness, or a need for assistance and guidance; and I have experienced so many strong women/feminine people in my life that do not exist under those terms. Strength doesn’t have to look masculine, or rigid, or unyielding. There are so many ways to be strong while also being feminine, the two are not mutually exclusive, and recognizing this will have ripple effects that extend through so many social, political, and cultural issues.

I decided to forgo the ability to choose subjects for this project, in hopes of finding diversity through those with whom the project resonates with. By providing a brief description of the project on social networking/dating apps, and a call to work with those who are interested, I have been able to regularly connect with a wide variety of people. The project is ongoing and I will continue to shoot as long as there are those who are interested, in order to illustrate how many different ways people can express femininity and strength simultaneously.
